Thai Nguyen Province

Location

In the North, Thai Nguyen province locates in the north east of the area. It borders with Ha Noi to the south, with Bac Kan province to the north, with Lang Son and Bac Giang provinces to the east. With the location like that, the province is considered the connection the midland and the Hong River Delta in the North and it has the important role in the development of the area.


Talk about Thai Nguyen province there are two things to mention, they are the tea and universities. These things impress that Thai Nguyen province owns the typical value that is not same with the other provinces in the country. Thai Nguyen province now is one of three places of the human resource training in the country after Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi.
  • Center city: Thai Nguyen City locates in center of the province.
  • Districts, town and city: Song Cong city, Pho Yen Town, Dai Tu District, Dinh Hoa District, Dong Hy District, Phu Binh District, Phu Luong District and Vo Nhai District.
  • Tourist city: Thai Nguyen City
  • Climate: Thai Nguyen province is in the area of the humid subtropical climate. The average temperature is 25 C degree. There are two seasons in the province with the rain time is from May to October and the dry time from October to May. The best time for travelling to Thai Nguyen Province is from March to September each year.
  • Transportation: Travel conveniently by land to the province and from it to other provinces. There are the railways and river way but these ways are not serve the transportation of travelling.

         From Thai Nguyen to Lang Son: 141 km
         From Thai Nguyen to Bac Giang: 63 km
         From Thai Nguyen to Hai Phong: 200 km
  • Ethnic groups: There are more than 40 groups who live together in the province. The main groups are Kinh, Tay, Nung, San Diu, San Chay, Dao, H’mong and Hoa groups.  

Landscapes

  • ATK Area: this is the historic relics that located in Dinh Hoa District. The place is the value destination for tourists who love to know more about the time war in Vietnam.
  • Duom Temple: the temple locates in the area of Diem Son Mountain in Phu Luong District. It is far from Thai Nguyen City more than 20km. This is one of the oldest temples in Thai Nguyen.
  • Phuong Hoang Cave – Mo Ga Spring: the famous landscape of the province that far from Thai Nguyen City more than 40 km. The destination is located in Phuong Hoang Mountain in Vo Nhai District where tourists can explore the amazing nature.
  • The museum of Ethnic Groups’ Culture in Vietnam: the museum locates in the center of Thai Nguyen City. It was built in 1960. There are 6 exhibiting rooms where display the things related to more than 50 ethnic groups culture in the country.
  • Nui Coc Lake: the tourist area is value for you to explore to enjoy the best natural picture and fresh air here. Nui Coc Lake is located in Dai Tu District. It is far from Thai Nguyen city about 15 km.

Festivals:

  • Hang Pagoda Festival: the festival is in 14th January for peace and good weather. The festival is happened in Dinh Hoa District.
  • Dancing Festival of Dao People: The festival is happened in 1st or 2nd in the Tet holiday in lunar year.
  • Gia Temple Festival: happened in 5th and 6th January in lunar year. The festival is in Dong Cao Commune in Pho Yen District.
  • Duom Temple Festival: the festival is happened in Phu Luong District from 6th to 8th January in lunar year.
  • Long Tong Festival: the festival of Tay people is happened in the beginning time of the spring. The nice festival is the case to pray for peace, good weather and the good crop. And there are many unique festivals in the province. 

Local specialties

There are different local specialties in the province such as, local sticky rice, cơm lam (the rice cooked in the bamboo tubes), banh chung (traditional rice cake) and local tea. Especially Thai Nguyen tea is considered one of some best tea in the country, so if you come to visit Thai Nguyen province, do not miss a chance to drink it and bring some as a special gift for the trip to this province.
